Research Your Competitors
Searching for keywords will usually bring up a variety of synonyms that you probably had not thought of. These synonyms offer a great insight into what your clients are looking for and what keywords your competitors are using to stay ahead or to play the catch-up game. When you search for a specific keyword, note the top 10 search results for that term and see how you can use those keywords in your SEO campaign.
Research Target Market
Searching for a specific keyword usually brings up related modifiers that you probably did not consider were in use. The results of the search will usually reveal what related modifiers are being used and their frequency of use. Using these modifiers will help you stand a better chance of increasing your traffic since you will be directly targeting your clients with the keywords they are using.
If you run a website or blog that you frequently submit content, you may start running out of ideas and end up either writing non-related and nonsensical stuff or not writing at all. A keyword search will usually help with a little inspiration. When you search for a keyword, it will usually help you with related keywords that you can use to create content around or help you locate content related to your industry. This is a great way to keep your ideas and content fresh and relevant to your target market.
Help with Marketing Plan
When you do a keyword research, determine what keywords you want to use, around 12, one for each month, and set up a market plan around each of these keywords. Every month, create content that revolves around each keyword and really work to create as much of it as possible and then move on to the next keyword the following month. You can revisit previously used keywords once in a while to maintain momentum. In this way, you will have struck a balance in your keyword targeting efforts while still remaining focused.
Watch for Trends
Google keyword tool is a great resource to determine growth opportunities and changing trends. Since the tool gives monthly search volumes, you can determine what keywords are getting more traffic and create content around them. This will help your SEO campaigns get better results quickly and help you remain competitive.
Identify Negative Modifiers
Sometimes a keyword may have other different definitions thereby re-directing traffic to your site which should be actually going to another site. Using Google keyword tool can help you weed out such negative traffic and get more targeted traffic that is likely to convert.
